The state's April unemployment rate was 6.6 down 0.3 percent from March. The Commission says the numbed of unemployed workersfell 11,600, from 286,600 in March to 275,000 in Northern Virginia's unemployment rate also improved. The region, Virginia's largesy workforce, saw the unemployment rate fallfrom 5.1 percent in March to 4.9 percent in April. While that is the lowest regional unemploymen ratein Virginia, it is also still significantlyu higher than Northern Virginia's unemployment rate of 2.4 percent a year ago. the U.S. unemployment rate was 8.6 percent. Arlingtob County continues to have thehealthiest employment, with a jobless rate of 4.

Loudoun County'ss April unemployment rate was 4.6 percent, and Alexandria City'ss jobless rate was 4.7 Those are the only jurisdictions in the state with an unemploymengt rate under5 percent. The highest unemployment rate in the state was at 20.2 percent. Leisure and hospitality employersaddes 12,900 jobs in April and now employ nearly 400,000 people in Virginia. Health care and private educatiobadded 2,000 jobs last Professional and business services employmenr climbed 1,800, led by computer systemsx design and accounting jobs, the Commissio n says.
