Mary Charles, communications director for the city, said that 141 of the positionsx are filled and that 275are vacant. The cuts represenr 10.2 percent of the city’d work force of 4,066. In a release, the city said that additionap positions may be eliminated Of the 141 filled positions 123 are management and 18 arelabor positions. The city isn't disclosing yet whichj departments thelayoffs affected. The city is offering severancre pay, continuation of insurance benefitsthrough COBRA, outplacement services and a city-sponsorec employee-assistance program. The job cuts come as a significant cost-cutting feature in the ’s reconciliation of a $1.
